Faculty Wish List

What is the Faculty Wish List?  It is a list of items the faculty would love to have but that their current budgets cannot cover. Some of the items are designed to further enrich the programs, while others would replace older existing items. Last year, Westtown parents, alumni, alumni parents, and friends generously contributed money to start a butterfly habitat and to purchase a clock, food processor, and binding machine for student publications in Lower School; maps, cameras, software, and a tripod for Middle School; binoculars for Upper School Science; instruments and a cellist chair for Performing Arts; cameras for Athletics; and the beautiful new wood tables and chairs on the Library patio.

How long will the Faculty Wish List be available?  This year’s wish list will be available on this page throughout the year.

How does the Wish List work?

  • If you are interested in funding an item on the wish list (or providing an item as a gift-in-kind), please contact Carol Trask, Special Events & Volunteer Manager, via email or by phone (610-399-7916). If you choose to donate a gift-in-kind, please do so through Carol Trask, so she can ensure that you receive an appropriate acknowledgment for your tax records.
  • You may pay by credit card online or send a check payable to Westtown School to Carol Trask in the Advancement Office at 975 Westtown Road, West Chester, PA 19382.
  • You may specify that your gift be used for a particular item that you pick from the wish list; OR
  • You may donate money to a specific division or department toward the purchase of a wish list item of the division/department’s choice.
  • You may contribute a portion of the cost of the wish list item or the full cost.  If you contribute a portion of the cost, we will use our best efforts to fund the item fully during the current school year.
  • If an item is obtained for less than the amount contributed, the remainder will be applied to the purchase of another wish list item or transferred to the school's operating budget, at the school's discretion, unless the donor specifies otherwise. To specify otherwise, please notify us at the time you make your contribution.

Portable speakers for use with MP3 players in classrooms

In middle school classes, the faculty often use music. For example, The Secret Life of Bees, taught in 8th grade English, frequently refers to music (Sam Cooke, Miles Davis, Elvis, gospel). In class the students listen to these artists to provide context and to discuss cultural synthesis and diverse influence. When learning about our sister school in Ghana, the students listen to Ghanian music. Visible Spectrophotometer (2)

A visible spectrophotometer is an analytical instrument used in Chemistry and Biology to observe electron behavior in molecules. The molecules absorb light from the instrument, allowing their electrons to jump in their atoms. By studying how much light the molecule can absorb, and gathering the data using the visible spectrophotometer, a student can find the concentration of a solution of colored ions, study the effects of bonding in organic molecules on light absorption (both Chemistry applications), or study chlorophyll molecules (which students do in Biology).

Energy Audits for Faculty Homes on Campus

A home energy audit assesses the energy usage of a home, pinpoints where and how a home is losing energy, and evaluates measures that can be taken to make the home more energy efficient (and thereby save money on energy costs). Help us evaluate the faculty homes on campus.

An energy audit for each faculty home will range $300 and $600, depending on the size of the homes. All homes can be evaluated for $11,000.
